This important will was recently discovered in the Archives of Chester County, Pennsylvania by Bill and Anna Churchman. It is important because it is the will of our first Churchman forebear to come to America.

John Churchman was born ca. 1665 in Saffron-Walden, Essex County, England. He came to America with William Penn in 1682 to settle the new state of Pennsylvania. When he died in 1725, at the age of 60, he owned about 1800 acres, and had personal property worth about 126 Pounds. All of his 9 children and his wife Hannah are mentioned in the will.

Please note that we attempted to preserve the spelling of the words as written in the original document. Since many of the words were spelled phonetically, they may appear to be misspelled.

Many of the hand scribed words were not clear enough to transcribe with certainty and in some cases, the context was not helpful. If you determine that the transcription is in error or have any suggestions at all, please let us know.
